What makes Young Living unique?
Guys, I am obsessed with Young Living’s essential oils. They are seriously amazing! There are numerous essential oil companies, all claiming to sell 100% pure essential oils, but it can be hard to distinguish which oils really are pure since this is an unregulated industry. Companies can put “100% pure” on their labels, without it really being true. As long as it has at least 5% of pure essential oil, the company can label a bottle as pure oil. I’ll never forget the first time I smelled Young Living Peppermint oil, it smelled SO wonderful! Ive bought other essential oils from other companies and they always smelled synthetic, like a candle or chemical cleaner. All young living oils smell amazing and exactly like the plants.
The majority of essential oils from other companies are extracted using high heat, high pressure, and chemical solvents. Although the final product may still smell like the plant, these harsh processing methods destroy the therapeutic qualities of the oils. Since essential oils are the concentrated essence of the plant, any contaminants in the soil or on the plant will become present in the oil. This is another reason why quality matters! Using lesser-quality oils for therapeutic purposes is never recommended and can be extremely toxic.
One of the really great things about Young Living is they own almost all their own farms! This ensures that they have complete control over the quality of their plants and they know nothing is being contaminated by a third party. They have farms in Idaho, Utah, Oman, Ecuador, Canada and France and you can even visit any of their farms and see the entire harvesting process!
They also have small labs on their farms to test the plants right from the field as they mature to determine the exact season and time of day to harvest the crop for the best oil. Young Living farms on land that has not been polluted with pesticides and chemicals for at least 50 years. When looking for and choosing sites for farms, Gary Young has made a point of finding land untouched by chemicals, far from highways, factories and such, using local sources of streams as opposed to city water & are even mulched with leftover plant material from the distillation process.
FUN FACT – Some farms use draft horses instead of modern farm equipment to reduce contamination of the plants!
What Is The Seed To Seal Process?
Young Living is the largest essential oil company in the world and has been thriving for over 20 years. They have the highest standards in the industry and they have a very strict process of harvesting essential oils called the Seed to Seal process.
On many of their farms, Young Living will plant alfalfa for FIVE years before a single seed even touches the ground. They do this because alfalfa is high in nitrogen, which greatly increases the therapeutic benefits of the plant. They then select the plants that are thriving the most and use those plants to reseed their fields. From seed to harvest, it is a three and a half year cycle.
Cultivate and Distill
Once the plants are at their ideal harvesting peak, they cultivate and get them ready for distillation. Young Living uses three different distillation methods: steam distillation, resin tapping and cold pressing. They distill all their oils at minimum pressures and temperatures to gently bring the oil and all of its compounds into the finished product. One thing that makes Young Living unique is they will distill their plants only once, insuring that all their oils have the strongest distillation and the most therapeutic benefits. Other companies will run their plants through the machines several times, getting more oil but it is not as strong and pure as the first distillation.
